It has been nearly two months since I last updated about my weight loss journey here on DawniesLife. No worries, my weight loss journey has continued, even while I took an absence from blogging about my journey! I continued to update bits and pieces of my journey on my Facebook, on MyFitnessPal and on Runkeeper. I am thankful to have such a great support system not only in real life surrounding me but also a great virtual support system online!
In my two month absence from DawniesLife, a few things have changed! I conquered a fear of mine. Those readers out there that know me personally, or have been following my journey since the beginning know that when my wife and I decided to join a gym that we purposely joined one that was about 15 miles away from home, simply because I was scared to death of running into people I knew when I was skinny at a gym closer to home. Shortly after my last blog entry I finally decided between the extra money I would save if we joined a closer to home gym and the confidence I had gained throughout my journey thus far that I was ready to join a gym closer to home! It is actually about a mile from home! I have ran into people I knew when I was skinny, people I knew when I was a little kid, people that said some not so nice things about me when I gained weight. I was afraid when I was faced with one of those situations I would leave the gym, possibly cry, completely panic. But I did the opposite. I worked my ass off. If I was on the treadmill I upped my incline a bit and increased my speed. That makes me proud of myself. My eating plan hasn’t changed a great deal, my calories vary from day to day, I don’t stick with the calorie allowance that MyFitnessPal set for me, I changed it myself to suit my needs, I eat anywhere from 1,200 to 1,700 calories a day. On a typical day I eat between 1,350 to 1,600 depending on how I feel that day, how much I exercised and in general if I am hungry. I give myself such a difference in calories each day because I am not on a ‘diet’, I am making a lifestyle change and I know that when I get to my goal weight and I am trying to maintain my weight that I wont be eating the same amount of calories each day and I will need to know how to balance them out so to say. I would most likely drop the weight more quickly if I dropped back down to fewer calories, but I am learning that this is a journey that doesn’t really have a finish line, that it isn’t a race. Even when I reach the milestone that is considered my ‘goal’ I will need to reassess from there and even if I decide to stay at that weight I will need to maintain that weight.
So where am I exactly now in my weight loss journey? Well, I started my weight loss journey at 212 pounds in December 2010. I weighed in today at 166.2 lbs. The last time I updated my blog was two months ago and I had weighed in at 177.8 at that time. So I have lost 11.6 lbs in the past two months. Also, when I reached 169 lbs I went from having an ‘Obese’ BMI to having and ‘Overweight’ BMI! I am no longer obese! That feels so wonderful to say! I have lost a total of 45.8 lbs since I started this journey in December! My goal weight is 125 lbs, I have 41 more pounds to lose to meet my goal! Just a little over half way there!
Going from the ‘obese’ classification to the ‘overweight’ classification was a huge milestone for me! I really feel like I am accomplishing things in my weight loss journey and I am proud of those accomplishments and I am ready to reach a ‘healthy’ classification (for me that is getting to about 141 pounds – which is 25.2 pounds to lose before I hit that)!
I do have updated progress pictures to share with the world today also!
